Markets may be nervous due to Syria attacks

Blog meant for 16 April 2018 Monday

Dear friends,

Marginal rise for Nifty on Friday. It closed 22 points higher. During the weekend, there were some attacks on Syria and hence we have to see how Asian markets react on Monday morning.

Nifty is in Hold zone for short term.

The indications for individual stocks for short term are –

DON’T BUY – VEDANTA, SBI

HOLD – TITAN, MARUTI, M&M, ASIAN PAINT, HDFC BANK, AXIS BANK, RELIANCE INDUSTRIES, HINDALCO, TCS, INFOSYS, HDFC

SELL –YES BANK, ITC

There are two views on what direction the markets will take in the coming months –

  1. Current correction for the Nifty from 11171 to 10480 is the start of the bear market correction since markets have been going up for last 4 years or so and hence it is time for the correction. In this view, investors are predicting that Nifty may fall much below 10,000 mark and will take some years to recover and then once again rise.

  2. The second view is that this is only a small consolidation in the overall huge bull market which India will experience in the coming years. In this view, the 6% correction which Nifty has seen from the highest point is just temporary before markets will resume its uptrend and go to newer heights.

Nobody will know which one of the above views is correct. Only time will show us who was right. Either way, as long term investors, you must continue to invest regularly and take advantage of the correction or uptrend.

As long as you invest in good companies, your portfolio will do well if looked after carefully and held for 8-10-15-20 years.
