Nifty once again above 10800 mark

Blog meant for 14 May 2018 Monday

Dear friends,

Huge rally on Friday for Nifty. It went up by 90 points and closed at 10807. Global markets were quiet on Friday.

Yesterday, Karnataka elections happened and the exit polls are indicating a Hung assembly where no party may get a pure majority. The results will be announced on May 15. We have to wait and see how what happens.

Markets may be slightly nervous in the coming week due to Elections results. There is also some chance of profit booking.

Nifty is in Hold zone for short term.

The indications for individual stocks for short term only are –

DON’T BUY – MARUTI

HOLD – M&M, RELIANCE INDUSTRIES, TCS, ITC, YES BANK, HDFC, ASIAN PAINT, HDFC BANK, HINDALCO, AXIS BANK, INFOSYS

SELL – TITAN

WAIT TO BUY – VEDANTA

BUY – SBI (last week it showed a Buy signal but fell the next day. Again on Friday it went above the red line and is showing a Buy indication. Either you can buy for short term or ignore the indication).

Continue to invest for long term regularly on a monthly basis.

Question of the Day –

In the 8 companies listed in the Workshop, there are some banks such as YES BANK & HDFC/HDFC BANK. After seeing the scams going through various banks, is it safe to buy Shares from Banking sector? There may be many scams yet to come from various banks. Kindly guide.

Answer –

The private banks are much better than the government ones. These kind of NPA issues always come now and then in the economy. It has happened in the past too. Our opinion is that you can continue to invest in the list of stocks for long term including banking stocks. Most of the scans are in the government banks.

Also, as long as you are monitoring the company’s fundamentals and reading news about them, you will not have any major surprise and you will know how to deal with difficult situations in certain companies if they face it in the future.
